Intramural Programs Appendix V: Annual Disbursements

In exchange for a two-year (or three-year for the Intramural General Research LRP) commitment to your research career, the NIH will
repay your educational loan debt at the rate of 25% annually, up to a maximum of $35,000 per year. You will receive the maximum
annual disbursement only if your repayable debt remains equal to or greater than $140,000
over your LRP contract period. Repayments to your lenders/servicing agents will be made on a quarterly basis during your LRP
contract. The LRP will make corresponding Federal tax payments for credit to your Internal Revenue Service tax account at the rate
of 39% of each loan repayment to cover your increased Federal taxes. Subject to the availability of funds, the LRP may also
reimburse any increased state or local taxes and/or additional increased Federal taxes (where the Federal tax payments were not
sufficient to fully cover your increased Federal taxes) that you incur as a result of your LRP benefits. You can enter into renewal
contracts that are competitively reviewed if you continue to meet the eligibility criteria. The submission of a renewal application
